Job summary

Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing professional to ensure safe, efficient sterilization of instruments and patient care equipment. The role emphasizes infection control, adherence to standards, and collaboration with SPD leadership.

The incumbent will maintain documentation, participate in training of new staff, and support continuous quality improvement within the Sterile Processing Department.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum of One year experience in sterile processing, or nine months with SPD Readiness Course.
• Nationally certified through HSPA or CBSPD; CEUs maintained as required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates high professional and ethical standards in sterilization decisions.
• Applies microbiology knowledge and infection control to processing of instruments and patient-care equipment.
• Demonstrates advanced knowledge of surgical instrumentation in at least one specialty.
• Proficient in decontamination of surgical instrumentation and patient equipment.
• Responsible for sterilization of instrumentation, equipment, and supplies requested by customer departments.
• Performs daily record keeping and monitoring of chemical, mechanical, and biological indicators.
• Participates in preceptorship and orientation of new team members.
• Distributes instrument trays per surgery schedule and surgeon's preference.
• Consults with SPD Supervisor or Operations Specialist on unit activities.
• Maintains safe environment and adheres to policies; supports quality control activities.
