Job summary

UNC Health Care is hiring a Central Sterile Technician for the Hillsborough location. The role processes and sterilizes medical and surgical instruments, prepares sets, and ensures equipment readiness for clinical use. Evening schedule and onsite work are expected.

No prior experience or licensure is required; nine months may be needed at specific UNC facilities. Eligible for a $5,000 commitment incentive. Join UNC Health Care System and contribute to patient care across North Carolina.

Qualifications

• No education required as long as other position qualifications are met
• No licensure or certification required.
• No experience required.
• If position is located at UNC Medical Center or Rex Hospital, nine months' experience as a sterile tech is required.
• If graduation from a sterile processing school, no experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Assembles baskets of instruments, basin sets and equipment using appropriate check lists and prepares for sterilization.
• Assembles sets of supplies and instruments used in a variety of clinical settings. Checks for cleanliness and functionality.
• Decontaminates, disinfects and thoroughly cleans supplies, instruments and equipment used in a variety of procedures.
• Distributes instruments, equipment and supplies to appropriate location.
• Monitors and maintains adequate levels of supplies, instruments and equipment.
• Monitors equipment for malfunctions. Notifies appropriate staff of need for more major repairs.
• Demonstrates proficiency in reprocessing and maintenance of endoscopes and other endoscopic equipment per policy and IFU.
• Interacts with equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Wears PPE as per policy and maintains supplies for cleaning and reprocessing.
• Accurately records data in logs.
