Job summary

Avera Sacred Heart Hospital is seeking a Sterilization Technician to join the central sterile processing team. The role includes decontamination, sterilization, and preparation of instruments for the OR, with a focus on patient safety and workflow efficiency.

Work hours vary with several day shifts; the position offers on-site work in Yankton, SD and requires adherence to Infection Control protocols and teamwork. Training and on-going competency evaluation are provided.

Qualifications

• Visual acuity sufficient to perform duties and communicate effectively.
• Ability to perform essential job functions with accommodations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Performs decontamination, assembly and sterilization following Infection Control and QA guidelines.
• Operates steam, ETO, hydrogen peroxide sterilizers and washer/sterilizer equipment.
• Ensures equipment is operated safely and according to manufacturer directions.
• Uses computer, communicates with manager and team members.
• Reports broken or malfunctioning instruments/equipment promptly.
• Uses desktop/laptop computers and handheld PDA for tracking and documentation.
• Answers phones and assists customers professionally.
