Job summary

ORLANDO HEALTH ORLANDO REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to support the sterilization workflow—from decontamination to packaging and distribution for surgical case carts.

The role requires a minimum of one year in sterile processing, completion of SPD readiness education within the first year, and potential certification through HSPA or CBSPD. Strong infection control knowledge is essential for patient safety.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in sterile processing.
• Completion of SPD Readiness Course within the first year.
• National certification through HSPA or CBSPD is preferred.
• Maintain CEUs for certifying body as required.

Responsibilities

• Has high professional and ethical standards in sterilization decisions.
• Uses infection control knowledge in processing patient care instrumentation and equipment.
• Proficient in decontamination and sterilization of instrumentation and equipment.
• Responsible for sterilizing instrumentation, equipment and supplies for customer departments.
• Keeps daily records and monitors chemical, mechanical, and biological indicators.
• Participates in preceptorship and orientation of new team members.
• Distributes instrument trays for surgical case carts based on surgery schedule and surgeon’s cards.
• Explains instrumentation used during procedures to staff.
• Collaborates with SPD Supervisor or Operations Specialist on unit activities.
