Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Lead Sterile Processing Technician to coordinate cleaning, sterilizing, assembling and distributing sterile instruments under the direction of the Sterile Processing Supervisor.

The role includes staff supervision, adherence to AAMI standards, quality assurance testing, and ensuring equipment is maintained. A high school diploma and Sterile Processing certification are required.

Qualifications

• High school degree required.
• Expert knowledge of sterile technique, AAMI standards and surgical instrumentation.
• Certified in Sterile Processing.

Responsibilities

• Oversees personnel engaged in processing, decontaminating, sterilizing and delivering instruments and patient care items.
• Assists Supervisor in development and adherence to department policies and procedures.
• Maintains quality assurance by performing sterilization tests and recording results; ensures equipment is in proper working order.
• Interviews new personnel and assists with training and evaluation of staff.
• Monitors inventory and storage of surgical supplies and equipment.
• Coordinates with supervisor to arrange repairs for faulty equipment.
