Job summary

The Lead Sterile Processing Technician at Northwestern Medicine coordinates and contributes to cleaning, sterilizing, assembling and distributing sterilized instruments under supervision. Reports to Sterile Processing Supervisor and helps with staff evaluations and ordering supplies.

This role requires high school diploma, expert knowledge of sterile technique and AAMI standards, and certification in Sterile Processing. Advanced leadership training is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Expert knowledge of sterile technique, AAMI standards and surgical instrumentation.
• Certified in Sterile Processing.
• Advanced Leadership training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversees personnel involved in cleaning, decontaminating, sterilizing and delivering a wide variety of patient care items and surgical instruments.
• Assists Supervisor in development and adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintains quality assurance standards by performing sterilization tests and ensuring proper operation and maintenance of SPD equipment.
• Interviews new personnel, orients and evaluates staff performance.
• Monitors inventory of supplies and equipment; coordinates repairs when needed.
