Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Sterile Processing Instrument Technician Lead to oversee Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization. This role ensures instruments are clean, tested, and assembled per Manufacturer's Instructions, with accurate documentation and effective prioritization of tasks.

The position requires 18+ months in sterile processing or 1600 hours, a High School diploma, and CRCST or CSPDT certification with CEUs; CIS/CER/CHL training is a plus. PPE and basic computer skills are needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 18 months experience in Sterile Processing or 1600 hours hands-on.
• Maintain CRCST or CSPDT Certification with CEU hours; consider CIS/CER/CHL.
• Preceptor Workshop prerequisites completed within 6 months of hire.
• Basic computer skills; able to wear PPE.

Responsibilities

• Clean, decontaminate, process, and sterilize instruments and equipment.
• Inspect, function test, and assemble instruments per Manufacturer's Instructions.
• Maintain documentation on logs or computer systems.
• Prioritize instrumentation, answer calls, and dispatch supplies.
• Operate processing equipment and follow department policies.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician Lead, under general supervision follows robust processes in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment ensuring that all items are free of any bioburden, inspecting, function testing and assembling instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. The Sterile Processing Technician always follows the Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization as well as Department and Hospital Processes and Policies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able accurately maintain the required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems. Documentation includes processes in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection or Sterilization as well as Sterile Processing Department Equipment. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able to prioritize instrumentation for processing, answer telephones and dispatch instrumentation, equipment and supplies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician performs their duties in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards. Performs other duties as assigned

Position Details:

Minimum Qualifications

• Education : High school graduate or equivalent
• Experience : Minimum 18 months experience in Sterile Processing or 1600 hours of hands-on experience in Sterile Processing.
• Certifications : Maintain CRCST or CSPDT Certification through HSPA or CBSPD by completing required CEU hours. Recommend obtaining additional Sterile Processing Certifications of CIS, CER &/or CHL.
• Other :
• PROF062- Preceptor Workshop & PROF358- Preceptor Workshop Pre-course Curriculum completion within 6 months of hire.
• Basic computer skills
• Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Must interact with staff and co-workers across a diverse range of disciplines.
• Must be able to follow directions.
• Must be able to operate equipment.

• Frequent: high/mid/low level lift of items weighing around 25 pounds
