Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis- Surgery Center is seeking a Sterile Processing Instrument Technician to support Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization workflows.

You will clean, inspect, test, and assemble instruments for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization, and maintain logs and documentation in line with Mercy policies. Qualifications include a high school diploma, 4 months of Sterile Processing experience, and CRCST or CSPDT certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 4 months experience in Sterile Processing or 400 hours hands-on experience.
• CRCST or CSPDT certification through IAHCSMM or CBSPD is required.
• Basic computer skills, ability to wear PPE, interact with staff across disciplines, follow directions.

Responsibilities

• Perform decontamination, processing and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
• Maintain documentation in logs or computer systems for each item processed.
• Prioritize instrumentation for processing and dispatch equipment and supplies as needed.
• Follow Manufacturer's Instructions for Use and department policies to ensure safety and quality.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician, under general supervision follows robust processes in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment ensuring that all items are free of any bioburden, inspecting, function testing and assembling instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. The Sterile Processing Technician always follows the Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization as well as Department and Hospital Processes and Policies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able accurately maintain the required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems. Documentation includes processes in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection or Sterilization as well as Sterile Processing Department Equipment. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able to prioritize instrumentation for processing, answer telephones and dispatch instrumentation, equipment and supplies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician performs their duties in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school graduate or equivalent

Experience
