Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Sterile Processing Instrument Technician to ensure instruments and equipment are cleaned, decontaminated, and assembled for sterilization. You will document processes and priorities for processing, and support dispatch and instrumentation needs across departments.

Shift: 12-hour shifts, weekends. Eligible for a $3,000 sign-on bonus if CRCST certified. Mercy offers comprehensive benefits and opportunities to grow within a leading healthcare system.

Qualifications

  • Requires High School diploma or GED.
  • Preferred healthcare experience and knowledge of sterilization processes.
  • Must be able to wear PPE and operate sterilization equipment with accuracy.
  • CRCST or CSPDT certification through IAHCSMM or CBSPD is preferred.
  • Ability to document processes in logs or computer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, process, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Prioritize instruments for processing and coordinate with teams.
  • Maintain accurate written or electronic documentation.

The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician, under general supervision follows robust processes in Decontamination, Processing and Sterilization by cleaning instruments and equipment ensuring that all items are free of any bioburden, inspecting, function testing and assembling instruments and equipment for High Level Disinfection or Sterilization. The Sterile Processing Technician always follows the Manufacturer's Instructions for Use in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection & Sterilization as well as Department and Hospital Processes and Policies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able accurately maintain the required documentation on written logs and/or computer systems. Documentation includes processes in Decontamination, Processing, High Level Disinfection or Sterilization as well as Sterile Processing Department Equipment. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician must be able to prioritize instrumentation for processing, answer telephones and dispatch instrumentation, equipment and supplies. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician performs their duties in a manner consistent with our Mission, Values, and Mercy Service Standards. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Instrument Technician:
Required Education: High School degree or GED equivalent
Preferred Experience: Prior healthcare related experience, basic knowledge of sterilization processes in a clinical setting.
Other: Basic computer skills
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
Must interact with staff and co-workers across a diverse range of disciplines.
Must be able to follow directions.
Must be able to operate equipment.
Instrument Technician II
Meets all requirements of both the Instrument Technician, and Instrument Technician I as well as the following requirements:
Required Experience: Minimum 6 months experience in Sterile Processing or 400 hours of hands-on experience in Sterile Processing
Required Certification: CRCST or CSPDT certification through IAHCSMM or CBSPD
