Job summary

Wakeman Boys & Girls Club in Bridgeport, CT, seeks a STEM Specialist to lead on-site after-school STEM programs for grades K-12 at the Smilow-Burroughs location. You will develop weekly lesson plans, manage activities, and ensure alignment with WBGC standards.

You\'ll collaborate with staff and volunteers, adapt projects for diverse youth, supervise sessions 3-6pm on Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri, and support safety and positive youth development in a dynamic after-school setting.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising youth in school, camp, or similar setting.
• Ability to communicate with parents/children from diverse backgrounds.
• Collaborate with directors and staff daily, including teens and adults.
• Basic knowledge of life skills, science, education, art, Apple programming, SEL, games and crafts for grades 3-8.
• Enthusiasm, creativity, ability to multi-task and make decisions under pressure.
• Conflict mediation and understanding youth engagement.
• Working with special needs populations.
• First Aid/CPR/AED training (classes offered).

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating and managing on site lesson plans and developing hands on activities.
• Prepare equipment/supplies each day.
• Supervise arrival and dismissal with staff.
• Monitor STEM Programs and participant needs.
• Communicate with Director regarding participant needs.
• Assist staff/volunteers to identify and intervene with behavior goals of youth.
• Place orders with Amazon through director for supplies.
• Effectively communicate with staff, youth, teens and faculty in groups.
• Be available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3-6pm and occasional evenings.
