Job summary

Harlem YMCA is seeking an Activity Specialist to design and deliver STEM enrichment in the Y Afterschool program, including Holiday Camps. You will create age-appropriate, project-based lessons, foster curiosity, and provide a safe, supportive learning environment for school-age children.

Under supervision, you will manage materials, plan logistics, assess progress, and help showcase student projects at an end-of-cycle event.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. College credits and formal education in a related field are preferred.
• Preference is given to individuals who are already experts in their field or students pursuing specialization.
• Minimum of two years of experience in science, technology, engineering, or math.
• Direct experience working with children under 13.
• Content expert in the designated subject matter.
• General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and comfortable working with diverse youth and adults.

Responsibilities

• Design a comprehensive STEM curriculum with clear goals and project-based lessons.
• Incorporate diverse STEM subjects and potential projects in coding, robotics, or science experiments.
• Support Program Director in securing materials and equipment.
• Plan for logistics and safety considerations in STEM projects.
• Include scalable activities for varying skill levels.
• Integrate formal and informal assessment methods to track progress.
• Assist with end-of-cycle student showcases and project display setup.
• Lead daily STEM activities and foster teamwork, thinking, and problem-solving.
