Job summary

DW Steel in Omaha, NE is seeking a reliable Material Handler for day shift to fill customer orders and assemble shipments of fabricated bar and related materials. You will receive and unload material from suppliers, locate inventory, and move items with cranes and forklifts while following shop drawings and cut lists.

The role requires attention to detail, basic math, and the ability to read shop orders. Safety, teamwork, and punctuality are essential to success in this hands-on position.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic involving decimals and fractions.
• Ability to understand and carry out semi-complicated verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to effectively communicate with vendors, co-workers, supervisors and managers.
• Ability to work under periodic supervision focused on the progress of work and setting priorities for job completion.
• Ability to pass a Drake-Williams Steel administered test that covers shop drawing interpretation, fractional number calculations, basic geometry, etc.

Responsibilities

• Fill customer orders and assemble shipments of bar and other materials.
• Receive and unload incoming material from suppliers.
• Locate material in inventory storage, staging areas and work areas.
• Load/unload trailers, rail cars, customer vehicles, and machines.
• Identify cut list and shop drawing errors and discrepancies before or during early stages of fabrication.
• Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, jib cranes, conveyors, and transfers in order to move materials.
