Job summary

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is seeking a Steamfitter/Pipefitter for repair and maintenance of steam and HVAC systems across the Cambridge campus. The role requires installing, repairing, maintaining and troubleshooting high- and low-pressure steam systems and related equipment.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, a five-year pipefitting apprenticeship, and at least five years of experience, with willingness to obtain ASME welding certification.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Five-year apprenticeship in pipefitting.
• Five years of pipefitting experience.
• Willingness to obtain ASME welding certification for steel pipe.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to read blueprints/specifications/ sketches.
• Ability to weld all piping systems (arc weld).
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Preferred: Pipefitter’s License.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot pressure steam systems across MIT.
• Install, repair, and service steam, processed water, chilled water, and compressed air systems.
• Respond to emergency mechanical system calls.
• Work from blueprints and instructions with minimal supervision.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA 10 and local regulations.
