Job summary

Con Edison in New York is seeking an Operating Mechanic to help control, operate and maintain steam and electrical generation equipment. You will monitor instruments, regulate boiler output, and ensure safe operation to meet fluctuating demand.

The role requires hands-on mechanical work, the ability to flex across multiple posts (Rover, Control Room), and readiness for demanding conditions. A high school diploma and relevant experience are required; a engineering degree is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 1 year of power plant/maritime/navy related experience.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Engineering and knowledge of boiler water chemistry and steam cycles.
• Driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Operate boilers, fans, pumps and auxiliary equipment in a steam generating station.
• Perform mechanical maintenance tasks and heavy manual labor.
• Flex across posts including Rover and Control Room; perform high‑voltage electrical switching.
• Work with steam production systems, feed pumps, and water treatment and fuel delivery systems.
