The Academic Success Center is seeking Peer Tutors who will assist fellow students in understanding and mastering course material. Peer Tutors provide academic support, clarify concepts, and help students develop effective study strategies.

We are currently hiring for the Statistics, Psychology, Nursing, and HS 2000 courses. Multiple tutors will be considered pending subject interest and eligibility.

Pay Rate: $15/hour

Courses Needed (Must have received an A- or A Grade in the course at Oakland University to Qualify):

• Statistics (STA 2226 or related)
• Psychology (PSY 1000, PSY 2500, PSY 2510)
  • Tutoring will be offered by appointment.
• Health Sciences (HS 2000)

Duties:

• Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for students to learn
• Conduct one-on-one and group tutoring sessions
• Provide strategies to enhance understanding of course material
• Utilize active listening to identify students' needs

Additional Information:

• Shifts are determined by subject/course need and the tutor's course schedule.
• Hours range Monday through Thursday, 10am - 10pm and Fridays 10am - 3pm.
• Preference for candidates able to work late evening hours, 8:00pm - 10:00pm twice a week.

Qualifications:

• Must be a currently enrolled OU student in a degree-seeking program with one or more listed courses completed at OU.
• Second-semester freshman standing or higher
• Minimum 3.7 GPA (A-) in the course(s) tutored
• Adequate demonstration of time/task management skills
• Must complete up to 10 hours of paid training toward tutor certification
• Obtain a minimum of one recommendation form from a current OU faculty member. Faculty can access and complete the form using the following link: OU Faculty Recommendation Form
