Job summary

Oakland University’s Academic Success Center, in collaboration with the School of Music, Theater and Dance, seeks a Peer Tutor for Fall 2026 to assist students in Music Theory and Aural Skills.

You will conduct appointment-based tutoring in Varner Hall, create inclusive learning environments, and share effective study strategies while developing strong time-management and listening skills. Begin September 2026; 10 hours of paid CRLA Level 1 certification training will be completed by year end.

Qualifications

• Must be a currently enrolled OU student in a degree-seeking program with three or more OU courses completed.
• Second-semester freshman standing or higher.
• Minimum 3.7 GPA (A-) in the course(s) tutored.
• Adequate demonstration of time/time management skills.
• Obtain a minimum of one recommendation form from a current OU faculty member.
• Work-Study applicants are welcome!

Job description

The Academic Success Center, in collaboration with the School of Music, Theater and Dance, is seeking a Peer Tutor to assist fellow students in understanding and mastering the course material for Music Theory and Aural Skills, beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. Peer Tutors provide academic support, clarify concepts, and help students develop effective study strategies.

• MUS 1211, 1212, 1213, 1214, 1215, 2212, 2213, 2214, 2215

Additional Information

• This position is for appointment tutoring. Tutors offer a regular weekly set of appointments. If a student schedules, then the tutor works. If no appointments are made, the tutor may use the time as they wish.
• Shifts are determined by subject/course need and the tutor's course schedule.
• Hours are scheduled during the range of: Monday through Thursday 10am- 6pm and Fridays 10am - 3pm.
• This position will begin in September 2026.
• All hired applicants must complete 10 hours of paid training, achieving Level 1 CRLA Certification by the end of the first academic year employed.
