Job Description

The Nebraska DHHS Division of Behavioral Health (DBH) is seeking a Statistical Analyst II who has experience with data management and quantitative analysis to work with our Data and QI teams. This individual will share in the responsibility of completing tasks related to executing data projects that rely on statistical analyses and programming experience in Excel, Arc GIS, SPSS, SAS, SQL, and/or PowerBI. The Data and QI team supports DBH internally as well as across Behavioral Health Regions, cross-division work, cross-agency activities, and public data requests. Bottom line: the Data and QI team helps the Division of Behavioral Health and other entities to make data informed decisions and policies that help people live better lives.

Job Duties
  • Our work involves collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting data for various purposes and to different audiences.
  • The Statistical Analyst II position has support and active responsibility associated with collecting, verifying, organizing, and analyzing data; interpreting results; and evaluating outcomes; and identifying trends in data.
  • It is important that the Statistical Analyst II be able to work well as a supporting member of a team, but also to work independently to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • It is expected that the Statistical Analyst II values and strives to offer accurate, complete, and reliable statistical outcomes and interpretation of results.
  • The Data and QI team supports DBH internally as well as across Behavioral Health Regions, cross-division work, cross-agency activities, and public data requests.
  • Periodically, our tasks pertain to legislative, state, and federal grant reporting requirements or to make recommendations for process improvements.
Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economic/social science research methods, inferential/inductive statistical analysis, or other related field of quantitative analysis; OR Experience applying statistical methods and techniques to program, project, administrative, or demographic data can be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher with a focus on quantitative analysis (statistics, mathematics, economic/social science research methods, survey research and methodology, inferential/inductive statistical analysis, or another related field).
  • Microsoft Office and statistical software, including Excel, SQL, SPSS, SAS, STATA, and Power BI.
  • Research methods and research design experience.
  • Survey principles and practices, including: Sampling methods, Data collection, and Statistical analysis techniques
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Resources and reference materials related to statistical data collection methods.
  • Best practices, policies, rules, and procedures related to the collection, management, and analysis of statistical data.
  • Types and sources of statistical data relevant to the behavioral health system.
  • Demographic characteristics and trends within the behavioral health system.
Skills
  • Familiarity with methods and practices for data collection, processing, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Ability to use quantitative methods to identify trends, evaluate findings, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts, tools, and methodologies to unfamiliar situations.
  • Ability to develop innovative quantitative solutions to address research and data-related challenges.
Abilities
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Apply survey and statistical methods to analyze, interpret, and report data.
  • Calculate and communicate descriptive and inferential statistics.
  • Develop clear data visualizations, including tables, charts, and graphs.
  • Assist with and provide technical support for the preparation of data, reports, handbooks, presentations, and other materials for diverse audiences.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and communicate clearly in person, by telephone, and through email.
