Job summary

The New Jewish Home on the Manhattan campus seeks a part-time Stationary Engineer to join our Engineering Department. Work hours are 4 pm to 12 am, two days per week, providing essential heating, cooling, and power for the building.

Responsibilities include operating and maintaining boilers, chillers, and associated equipment, inspecting mechanical rooms, monitoring gauges, and performing repairs and preventive tasks as needed to ensure reliable facility operations.

Qualifications

• Professional licenses/certifications required for stationary engineering roles.
• FDNY certificates (Q1/Q99) and sprinkler/standpipe certifications are mandatory.
• EPA universal refrigerants certification required.
• FDNY refrigeration license required.
• Knowledge of water circulation for HVAC systems, pumps and boilers.
• Basic plumbing and electrical repair knowledge beneficial.
• Fitness certificates for boiler, sprinkler standpipe, pump, air compressor, etc.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain boilers, chillers, and HVAC systems to support building heating, cooling and power.
• Perform periodic inspections of mechanical rooms and monitor gauges.
• Assist in maintaining HVAC controls and system efficiency.
• Carry out routine, corrective and requisitioned repairs of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Perform diversified duties as assigned to ensure safe, reliable building operations.

Education

Stationary Engineer license or certification

FDNY Engineers certificate Q1/Q99

Stand Pipe and Sprinkler certificate of Fitness (S12, S13)

EPA certification for universal handling of refrigerants

Refrigeration license by FDNY

Water circulation knowledge for heating/cooling, pumps, boilers, etc.

Basic plumbing, handyman repairs, electrical knowledge

Certificate of fitness for boiler, sprinkler, standpipe, pump, air compressor and piped oxygen

Job description

The Engineering Department on the Manhattan campus is seeking a part time Stationary Engineer to join our team! The work schedule is 4 pm to 12 am , 2 days per week.

Job Summary

Performs the duties necessary to operate and maintain boilers, chillers and other auxiliary equipment necessary for producing steam for heating, cooling and power for the entire building.

• Performs periodic inspection of mechanical rooms to ensure proper operation of heat, air conditioning, and ventilation systems.
• Check pressure/temperature gauges.
• Assist in maintaining HVAC controls.
• Perform corrective, routine and requisitioned repairs of electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Perform diversified duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills & Requirements

• Stationary Engineer license or certification required
• FDNY Engineers certificate Q1/Q99
• Stand Pipe and Sprinkler certificate of Fitness (S12, S13)
• Must have EPA certification for universal handling of refrigerants
• Refrigeration license by FDNY
• Must very good knowledge of water circulation for heating/cooling, pumps, boilers, fire alarm, cooling towers, chemical treatment, domestic water, etc.
