Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation seeks a senior leader to provide statewide leadership, direction, and technical engineering guidance across transportation safety programs. The role focuses on staff leadership, program oversight, and data-driven improvements to reduce crashes and improve mobility.

Work with districts and partners to implement safety strategies, manage resources, and ensure compliance with policies.

Qualifications

Ability to analyze large quantities of complex data and to manage multiple, complex statewide programs.
Ability to develop effective relationships at all organizational levels.
Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Experience applying supervisory and human resources practices and principles to include hiring, discipline, performance management and employee development.
Experience in traffic engineering analysis practices and related software.
Experience in traffic engineering principles, practices and procedures, particularly traffic flow theory.
Valid Professional Engineer's license.

Responsibilities

Provide oversight of the program area to ensure compliance with policies, practices, guidelines and specifications.
Manage and improve performance of data programs such as the Traffic Monitoring System and Crash Records System.
Establish objectives and priorities for the team and communicate them effectively.
Address technical issues and provide leadership in engineering areas.
Develop and implement highway network performance measures.
Evaluate programs and institute changes as required, ensuring quality control.
