Job summary

Maryland Center for Legal Assistance (MCLA) seeks a Staff Attorney for the District Court Help Center. This statewide role requires travel to offices and backup coverage across Charles or Frederick Counties. The ideal attorney will handle a broad range of duties promptly and professionally.

Qualifications include Maryland bar admission and civil litigation experience; Spanish and ASL are strongly preferred. The role offers a comprehensive benefits package and competitive salary.

Qualifications

• Admitted to practice in Maryland.
• 1 year or more civil litigation experience; clinical or clerkship considered.
• Ability to conduct rapid legal research using Westlaw.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Provide brief legal advice to self-represented litigants in civil matters.
• Assist drafting pleadings, motions and trial preparation.
• Provide referrals to legal service organizations as appropriate.
• Local travel between offices as needed.
