Job summary

Maryland Center for Legal Assistance (MCLA) in Frederick, MD seeks a Staff Attorney for the District Court Help Center. You will provide brief legal advice and assist litigants in drafting pleadings, motions, and court forms.

Travel between offices as needed; fluency in Spanish and ASL preferred. You will join a team committed to access to justice and work under a recognized salary scale with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Admitted to practice in Maryland.
• 1+ year civil litigation experience (clinical or clerkship considered).
• Ability to conduct rapid legal research using Westlaw.
• Strong customer service skills and empathy for distressed individuals.
• Willingness to travel between offices on short notice.
• Spanish and American Sign Language fluency strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide brief legal advice and information to self-represented litigants on civil matters.
• Assist litigants in drafting pleadings, motions, and court forms.
• Provide referrals to appropriate legal services and organizations.
• Travel between Maryland offices as needed.
• Perform other duties within the scope of the position.
