Job summary

The North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal, part of the State of North Carolina, is seeking a knowledgeable Fire & Rescue Trainer/Inspector to deliver statewide training and manage certification programs. The role requires audits of courses, monthly reporting, and collaboration with agencies across the state.

Includes 24/7 on-call responsibilities as part of the State Emergency Response Team, with extensive travel, overnight stays, and a hybrid telework option.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Fire Science or related field.
  • Certification as Level II Instructor or Level II Inspector.
  • Two years of experience in state fire and rescue training programs.
  • Ability to meet standards and training requirements across NC.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver statewide fire and rescue training and certification programs.
  • Audit certification courses, live fire training, and prepare investigative reports.
  • Interpret and communicate standards and national requirements (OSHA, NFPA).
  • Assist with program and standards development and Certification Board support.
  • Represent the Department at meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Serve on the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) with 24/7 on call responsibility.
