Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Insurance, Office of State Fire Marshal, seeks a Fire & Rescue Training/Inspector to deliver statewide fire and rescue training, conduct audits, and support certification standards. Experience with live fire training and statewide event coordination is essential.

The role requires Level II Instructor/Inspector certification, an Associate degree in Fire Science or related field, and a willingness to travel and respond to emergencies as part of SERT.

Qualifications

  • Logistical experience coordinating statewide events.
  • Experience with deployments under a declared state of emergency.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with fire/rescue agencies and the public.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA standards.
  • Willingness to serve on the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) with on-call duties.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver fire and rescue training, instructor qualification testing, and evaluations.
  • Audit certification courses, live fire training, and prepare investigative reports.
  • Interpret and communicate OSH A/NFPA standards and national requirements.
  • Assist with program and standards development and Certification Board support.
  • Represent the Department at meetings, conferences, and workshops.
