Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Insurance, Office of State Fire Marshal, seeks a Fire & Rescue Trainer/Inspector I to design and deliver statewide fire & rescue training programs, conduct audits, and support certification standards.

The role requires an Associate degree in Fire Science, Level II Instructor/Inspector credentials, and at least two years of training experience; extensive travel, weekend work, and on-call duties are expected as part of the SERT alignment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Fire Science or related field required.
  • Certification as a Level II Instructor or Level II Inspector.
  • Two years of experience conducting NC fire and rescue certification training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver fire and rescue training, instructor qualification testing, and evaluations.
  • Audit certification courses, live fire training, and prepare investigative reports as needed.
  • Interpret and communicate standards (OSHA, NFPA).
  • Assist with program and standards development and Certification Board support.
  • Represent the Department at meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Act as a SERT member with 24/7 on-call responsibilities.
  • Support line-of-duty death processing when requested.
