Job summary

Virginia State Parks at Culpeper Battlefields State Park is seeking a Maintenance Ranger to perform recurring grounds care, cleaning, and basic maintenance of park facilities and equipment.

The role requires ability to work outdoors in all weather, lift up to 50 lbs, and physically engage in routine park operations. Background checks and E-Verify participation are required.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and the use of various cleaning supplies/equipment.
• Must be friendly, outgoing, and able to work unsupervised and/or with a team.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain bathrooms and park buildings.
• Mow grass and perform general groundskeeping tasks.
• Remove leaves, trash, and litter from park areas.
• Perform basic maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• Position requires standing, bending, and working in the outdoor elements.
• Assist with additional maintenance and operational tasks assigned by supervisors.
• Report repair needs to the supervisor.

Culpeper Battlefields State Park is accepting applications for a Maintenance Ranger position.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Ranger performs the recurring grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate Virginia State Park facilities, grounds, and equipment. Includes but is not limited to, cleaning restrooms; mowing grass; weed eating; raking/removing leaf litter, trash, and litter; cleaning park buildings; trail maintenance; performing basic upkeep and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications

Additional Considerations

• Experience working in parks or a similar environment.

Special Instructions

• Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
• Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
• Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
• Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
