Natural Tunnel State Park is accepting applications for a Contact Ranger position.

Job Summary

Performs office duties that provide for a quality recreational experience for state park guests.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

• Assist visitors to the park by providing directions and information regarding services provided by the park and other local attractions.
• Answers phones and takes messages for all employees.
• Acts as a front-line customer service representative for the park site and presents a professional and organized approach to the work site.
• Collects appropriate fees for cabin, camping, picnic shelters, and pool party rentals.
• Makes cabin and campground reservations through the use of the computerized reservation system.
• Uses a computer to pull and print reservation reports.
• Respond to complaints and guest inquiries promptly and ensure the proper staff member is informed to follow through on any guest complaints or needs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be able to count money, use a cash register, copier, folding machine, computer software, and credit card machine.
• Must be able to use a 2-way radio.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Must provide own uniforms and be willing to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• A valid driver's license is required.

Additional Considerations

• Knowledge of Business English.
• Ability to meet and work with the public pleasingly and possess excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical functions and able to read instructions and policy manuals.
• Familiarity with accepted American Red Cross First Aid procedures is desirable.

Special Instructions

• Background Check: Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
• Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
• Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
• Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

• DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts, such as:
  • Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to the Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
  • Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night before a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
  • Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
