Job summary

Whitley Penn is seeking a State & Local Tax Manager to lead tax consulting and compliance for multi-state clients. The role emphasizes accurate, timely deliverables, mentoring staff, and expanding client relationships. You will work from our Texas offices in a fully in-office setting.

Ideal candidates hold an active CPA license and have 5–7 years of州-local tax experience plus strong leadership with a client-service mindset capable of driving new business opportunities.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license required.
• 5–7 years of state & local income/franchise tax compliance and consulting experience.
• Advanced knowledge of state income/franchise tax law and guidance.
• Strong communication skills and leadership.
• Experience mentoring staff and developing others.
• Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships and grow business.

Responsibilities

• Provide state and local income/franchise tax consulting and compliance services for diverse clients across multiple states.
• Advise on sourcing, nexus, and accounting for state taxes.
• Review and/or prepare state income tax returns.
• Manage multiple engagements, staffing, and budgets; client relationships and engagement economics.
• Lead and develop associates and interns; coach and evaluate performance.
• Participate in proposals, networking, and business development.
