Job summary

Whitley Penn, a leading audit, tax and advisory firm, seeks a State & Local Tax Manager to oversee timely client deliverables and manage multiple engagements in a fully in-office role across Dallas, Plano, Austin or Houston. You will mentor associates, develop staff, and expand client relationships.

The ideal candidate has a CPA license and 5-7 years of state & local tax experience with advanced technical knowledge and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Active CPA License.
• 5-7 years of state & local income/franchise tax compliance and consulting experience.
• Advanced knowledge of state income/franchise tax law and guidance in Texas and other key states.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with a broad range of individuals.
• Leadership skills with ability to mentor and develop staff.
• Experience building and maintaining client relationships and expanding business.

Responsibilities

• Provide state & local income/franchise tax consulting and compliance services for diverse clients across multiple states.
• Advise clients on sourcing, nexus, and accounting for state taxes.
• Review and prepare state income tax returns.
• Manage multiple engagements, staffing, and budgets; monitor engagement economics.
