Job summary

NiSource is seeking a Summer State Affairs Intern in Columbus, OH to support the State Affairs department with stakeholder engagement, regulatory and legislative research, and community outreach. This 12-week program runs May 2027 and requires that candidates reside within 50 miles of the location.

The intern will work closely with leadership, help prepare materials, organize information, and track projects while building professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Undergrad student pursuing public affairs, political science, communications, or related field with strong writing and organizational skills.
  • Interest or knowledge in public affairs, government relations, regulatory affairs, community engagement or public policy is desirable.
  • Able to organize information and prepare presentation materials using MS Office tools.
  • Willing to travel within the service territory to attend events.

Responsibilities

  • Support State Affairs projects including stakeholder engagement, community outreach, and regulatory tracking.
  • Maintain stakeholder information and track engagement with officials and organizations.
  • Prepare briefing materials, summaries, talking points, meeting notes, and internal updates.
  • Assist with meetings, events, logistics, agendas, follow-up notes, and action items.
