Job summary

NiSource seeks a Summer Sustainability Intern in Columbus, OH for a 12-week program beginning May 2027. The intern will join the Environmental Policy & Sustainability team, supporting policy analysis, reporting, and sustainability program development.

The role provides hands-on experience in environmental compliance, regulatory engagement, and cross-team collaboration, reporting to the Manager of Environmental Policy and Sustainability.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a college or university with a focus in Environmental Science, Public Policy, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Strong writing, research, and organizational skills.
• High-performance individual eager to learn and ready to take ownership of assigned duties.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively on teams.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze federal and state environmental policies and guidelines to support compliance and strategic planning.
• Prepare written summaries of environmental policies and regulations, highlighting potential impacts on business operations.
• Assist in identifying, developing, and enhancing environmental management systems and programs that are both compliant and proactive.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure environmental programs are effectively integrated across business functions.
• Support data collection, analysis, and reporting efforts to internal and external stakeholders, contributing to transparency and regulatory alignment.
• Drive continuous improvement in organizational sustainability practices through data-driven insights and cross-functional collaboration.
• Support internal reporting and documentation efforts related to environmental initiatives and regulatory developments.
• Develop materials to support team meetings and cross-functional collaboration.
