Job summary

TDIndustries, Inc. is seeking a skilled Start-Up Technician to perform startup, testing, and functionality checks on newly installed Commercial HVAC systems. You will verify operation per design specs and work with subcontractors to ensure proper system performance.

The role requires 5–7 years of relevant experience, EPA certification, and strong interpretation of drawings. A focus on safety, mentoring, and effective customer communication is essential.

Qualifications

  • EPA certification is required.
  • VFD, VRF, OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, and Factory Authorized certifications preferred.
  • Must read and interpret blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior technicians.
  • Ability to understand budget activity per job.

Responsibilities

  • Performs start-up and functionality checks on newly installed Commercial HVAC systems.
  • Ensures operation per engineering or factory specs and codes.
  • Interprets drawings and advises supervisors.
  • Trains and mentors Start-Up Technicians.
  • Disassembles/reassembles mechanical and plumbing equipment for maintenance.
  • Diagnoses system performance for HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Maintains status reports on completed work.
  • Safely operate vehicle and trailer per safety requirements.
  • Purchases materials and issues purchase orders to suppliers.

Job Summary

Responsible for performing start-up, testing, and functionality checks on newly installed Commercial HVAC systems. This role ensures all systems operate according to design specifications and project requirements.

Essential Duties
  • Performs start-up and functionality checking on newly installed Commercial HVAC, equipment and systems. Checks newly installed equipment for operation I/A/W engineering or factory specifications. Ensures that all components and systems are installed according to the applicable city and trade codes. Works directly with other subcontractors or vendors to insure proper operation of equipment.
  • Interprets drawings, identifies errors/omissions and advises the appropriate supervisor.
  • Effectively communicates the work performed to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Trains and provides guidance to Start-Up Technicians with less experience to improve their skill sets. Performs or assists with owner’s training and functional testing with Commissioning Agent.
  • Disassembles and reassembles commercial mechanical and plumbing equipment to perform trouble shooting and preventative maintenance as needed. Ensures newly installed equipment is level and aligned.
  • Diagnoses the performance of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and/or electrical systems through observation, testing, and setup as per the specified plans and specifications.
  • Maintains continuous status report on work completed.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle and trailer as evidenced by past driving performance record and to adhere to all company safety requirements. Maintains vehicle, equipment and tools.
  • Purchases materials and issues purchase order numbers to suppliers.
Minimum Requirements

EPA Certification is required.

VFD, VRF, OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, and Factory Authorized certifications are preferred.

Required to continuously maintain registrations, professional licenses, and certifications as necessary for the role.

Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience.

Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and wiring diagrams.

Strong interpersonal and people skills with good written and oral communications capability.

Performs as a self-managed individual.

Coaching and mentoring skills

Ability to understand budget activity per job.
