Pinterest is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to define and drive the technical direction of the web development layer. You will focus on data fetching, evaluate frameworks, and lead platform investments that improve developer productivity at scale.

You will mentor engineers, shape architecture, and collaborate with product, design, and infrastructure teams to raise the engineering bar and deliver high-quality web experiences for millions of users.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of web software engineering experience building scalable client-side data architecture.
• Deep understanding of caching, latency, consistency and ergonomics in web clients.
• Expert-level coding in JavaScript/TypeScript (optional Python).
• Experience with GraphQL and REST and patterns for when to use each.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive technical direction for foundational web capabilities with a focus on data fetching.
• Assess web client frameworks, tooling, and patterns to identify high-impact improvements.
• Lead platform investments to simplify development and improve consistency.
• Partner with product, platform, design and infrastructure teams to align on patterns.
• Shape the evolution of data fetching in a hybrid GraphQL/REST environment.
• Establish best practices, reusable abstractions, and technical guidance.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical direction through reviews and discussions.
• Contribute to a high-scale web platform serving millions of users.
