Job summary

Stryker Corporation is seeking a Staff User Interface and Experience Designer for the Mako Robotics team, focusing on THA software experiences. You will craft intuitive interfaces and production‑ready specifications, collaborating with engineering, product development, and design to shape current and future robotic technologies.

The role requires strong visual and interaction design skills, hands‑on technical capability, and experience in Agile environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in UI/UX or related field or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of professional UI/UX design experience in software products or related fields.
• Proficiency with Figma, including design systems, component libraries, and high‑fidelity interfaces.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Experience designing software interfaces and creating interactive prototypes.
• Portfolio demonstrating relevant UI design capabilities.
• Experience in creating production‑ready UI specifications and documentation.
• Strong visual design, graphics, and illustration skills.
• Experience with complex software applications requiring detailed interfaces.
• Familiarity with usability engineering, accessibility, and user‑centered design methods.
• Experience collaborating with Agile/Scrum teams and understanding software development practices.
• Ability to work independently within matrixed, distributed teams.
• Strong organizational skills and proactive communication.
• Preferred: 3D modeling/rendering tools (KeyShot/SolidWorks) and medical device software design.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop intuitive, visually consistent software interfaces for Mako robotic software applications, focusing on THA.
• Create high-fidelity interface designs, screen layouts, prototypes, and reusable UI components using Figma and design systems.
• Translate clinical workflows and user needs into clear, functional software experiences.
• Apply typography, color, layout, navigation, component states, and user feedback principles.
• Develop production‑ready UI specifications for software development teams.
• Create and manage design assets, libraries, naming conventions, and version-controlled deliverables.
• Collaborate with UX researchers, product owners, and cross‑functional teams to incorporate feedback.
• Support design reviews and usability evaluations to refine interfaces.
• Balance user needs with technical feasibility and product requirements.
• Partner with engineers and scrum teams to ensure UI implementation.
• Maintain consistency across Mako hip/knee/shoulder apps and platforms.
• Manage design activities independently and drive deliverables from concept to implementation.
• Communicate design decisions and specifications clearly to stakeholders.
• Contribute to design process improvements and documentation standards.
• Support medical device design controls and usability requirements.
