Job summary

Gusto is seeking a seasoned Staff Software Engineer to join the Time / Scheduling team. You’ll own the full lifecycle from specs to launch and iteration, writing frontend and backend code, and guiding product direction.

You will mentor engineers, work on a large-scale Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/React app, and collaborate with product, data, design, and platform teams to deliver measurable customer value.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Experience building scalable solutions at scale.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to accelerate development and testing.
• Ability to mentor engineers and drive multi-quarter projects.
• Ownership mindset across product areas and breadth of impact.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test Time domain features across Gusto core products.
• Mentor engineers to solve complex problems at scale.
• Scale Ruby/Rails and JavaScript/React applications.
• Collaborate with Product, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering to address customer pain points and launch iterations.
• Build products our customers genuinely love.
