Job summary

Gusto, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Time / Scheduling product team to ship features from design through launch and iteration.

You will write frontend code, design backend APIs, influence product direction, and own post-launch outcomes. Ideal candidates have 8+ years of experience, familiarity with Ruby on Rails and React, and a track record building scalable systems while applying AI tools to speed development.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• Experience building scalable solutions that eliminate customer pain.
• Experience leveraging AI tools or systems to accelerate development, improve testing, and deliver new product capabilities.
• Curiosity and experimentation with emerging AI frameworks, applying best practices to scale AI safely.
• Ownership of multi-quarter projects that impact customers at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test Gusto core products across the Time domain.
• Mentor other engineers to solve complex problems at scale.
• Scale a large Ruby/Rails and JavaScript/React application.
• Collaborate with Product, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering to solve customer pain points and launch features.
• Build products that customers genuinely love.
