Job summary

Pilot is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join our Takeoff team. You will own the largest, most ambiguous problems in our core accounting systems, setting technical direction and driving outcomes that span multiple teams.

Our backend is Python, with a frontend stack in JavaScript/TypeScript and Vue.js. We deploy on AWS, use Terraform, and rely on Postgres for data and modern observability tools for production reliability.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• Production experience with Python.
• Ability to lead multi-team technical projects to success.
• Strong written and verbal communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects with high ambiguity from definition through delivery.
• Set technical strategy and architecture across teams.
• Identify cross-team gaps and drive the strategy to address them.
• Build, test, and deploy software continuously (daily or more).
• Create and review technical specs and maintain quality standards.
• Collaborate with PMs, Designers, and stakeholders to solve the right problems.
• Mentor and sponsor engineers across the organization.
• Investigate production issues and improve reliability.
