Job summary

Alphatec Spine is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead development of its intraoperative spine navigation and robotics platform. You will design and implement C++ applications on Unix/Linux, participate in requirements, design, testing, and regulatory activities, and mentor junior engineers.

The role demands 8+ years in surgical navigation or medical devices, strong experience with IEC 62304 and FDA-regulated environments, and collaboration across cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in development of surgical navigation or medical devices
• BS/MS in CS/CE or related field
• Experience with IEC 62304 and FDA-regulated environments
• Proven leadership and cross-functional collaboration

Responsibilities

• Technical leadership in intra-op spine navigation software, architecture design, roadmap decisions
• Design and implement high quality applications on Unix/Linux
• Design and implement application software in C++
• Perform integration and system level testing
• Collaborate with marketing and cross-functional R&D teams
• Develop documentation for software projects
• Estimate tasks and plan projects
• Manage multiple tasks and priorities
• Mentor junior resources and own end‑to‑end module delivery
• Attend surgical cases and engage with surgeons
• Support prototyping and cadaveric testing with R&D/Marketing teams
• Travel up to 15%
