Job summary

Oliver James Group is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Stop-Loss platform on a brand-new greenfield project. You will own the technical direction, contribute to architecture decisions, and deliver production-grade software in collaboration with the Director of Engineering and cross-functional partners.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, AI-assisted tooling, and strong focus on data security (PII/PHI) within a regulated insurance domain, with remote work and no visa

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with a track record delivering complex production systems.
• Experience owning technical direction and architecture decisions.
• Experience with event-driven architecture and microservices.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical design and delivery of the Stop-Loss platform components from app layer to services and data.
• Evaluate vendor platforms, decide components to adopt, and build on top of them.
• Design and build event-driven services, data ingestion pipelines, and AWS-based backend infrastructure.
• Set engineering standards and mentor the growing team.
