Job summary

Oliver James Group is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to steer the architectural direction of a product-agnostic platform supporting multiple products, with a focus on configurability and reuse. This high-impact, hands-on role reports across Product and senior stakeholders and emphasizes practical AI use cases, observability, and reliability.

You will guide teams, translate business problems into technical strategy, and lead modernization efforts from hard-coded builds to a scalable platform,

Qualifications

Must have staff-level leadership with cross-team influence.
Experience owning and operating production systems, not just building them.
10+ years designing, building and operating production software systems.
Excellent communication with executives and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

Lead technical direction and architecture for the platform.
Drive cross-team initiatives and coordinate dependencies.
Move from hard-coded builds to a configurable, reusable platform.
Raise engineering standards across testing, observability, CI/CD, and readiness.
Lead discovery and proofs of concept, including AI use cases.
Mentor Senior Engineers and strengthen technical capability across teams.
Represent engineering in roadmap and prioritisation discussions.
