Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Compute Platform to own the routing layer connecting services to customers. You will design and operate core compute orchestration infrastructure using CNCF technologies like Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio, and SPIFFE.

You will improve latency, reliability, and performance of application traffic at scale. You will collaborate with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to meet cross-cutting platform requirements and shape an AI-assisted

Qualifications

8+ years of software engineering experience in infrastructure roles.
5+ years with routing technologies including reverse proxies, ingress controllers, CDN/WAF, and service mesh.
Proficiency in Go, Python, or Java with production-grade infra services.
Experience scaling backend infra on AWS, with networking, compute, and container orchestration.
Deep familiarity with CNCF ecosystem (Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio).
Ability to diagnose complex distributed systems issues and drive resolution.

Responsibilities

Own design, development, and automation of routing infrastructure at scale.
Build on Envoy-based proxies, Istio gateways, Ambient mesh, and SPIFFE authentication.
Improve latency, reliability, and performance of routing across Coinbase production.
Shape developer experience for operating apps with AI-driven tooling and processes.
Collaborate with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to meet platform requirements.
