Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. in the United States is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Compute Platform to own the routing infrastructure that connects every service to customers.

You will design and deliver routing capabilities using Envoy, Istio, and Kubernetes to improve scalability, reliability, and performance across Coinbase's production environment. You will partner across Security, Reliability, and Observability teams, shape the developer experience, and apply AI tooling to infrastructure

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering and infrastructure roles.
• 5+ years with routing technologies including reverse proxies, ingress controllers, CDN/WAF, and service mesh.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, or Java; production-grade infra services.
• Experience scaling backend infra on AWS; knowledge of networking, compute, and container orchestration.
• Familiarity with CNCF stack (Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio).

Responsibilities

• Own design, development, and automation of routing infrastructure for Kubernetes-backed apps at scale.
• Build on Envoy-based proxies, Istio gateways, Ambient mesh, and SPIFFE authentication.
• Improve latency, reliability, and performance of routing across Coinbase production.
• Shape the paved-road developer experience with AI-driven tooling and support.
• Collaborate with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to meet platform requirements.
