Job summary

Coinbase is a remote-first company. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Compute Platform, you will own the routing layer that connects every service to customers, designing and delivering routing capabilities at scale using CNCF tech like Kubernetes, Envoy, and Istio.

You will improve latency and reliability of application routing across Coinbase's production environment, collaborate with security, reliability, and observability teams, and help shape the developer experience with AI-enhanced

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering or infrastructure roles.
• 5+ years with routing tech including reverse proxies and service mesh.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, or Java.
• Experience scaling backend infra on AWS.
• Familiarity with CNCF stack (Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio).
• Ability to diagnose complex distributed systems issues.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, development, and automation of routing infrastructure that directs application traffic to Kubernetes backends at scale.
• Build capabilities on top of Envoy-based reverse proxies, Istio gateways, Ambient mesh, and SPIFFE service authentication.
• Drive improvements to latency, reliability, and performance of routing systems across Coinbase's production environment.
• Shape the paved-road developer experience for operating applications with AI-driven tooling and support.
• Partner with Security, Reliability, and Observability teams to meet platform requirements.
