Job summary

Second Nature is seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of scalable software solutions. You will work with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain mission-critical systems, while mentoring junior engineers and shaping technology strategy.

You will drive architecture decisions, ensure code quality, and contribute to a remote-first culture that enables collaboration across the US.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong background in software design and architecture.
• Experience with TypeScript and Node.
• Experience with AWS, PostgreSQL, SQL.
• Experience using AI coding tools in daily workflow.
• Deep knowledge of software architecture patterns and design (microservices, distributed systems, hexagonal architecture, DDD).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, architecture, and development of high-performance, scalable software systems.
• Write, test, and maintain high-quality code that meets requirements.
• Contribute to architectural decisions for scalability and maintainability.
• Uphold coding standards and conduct code reviews to ensure quality.
• Analyze and resolve complex technical issues and optimize performance.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate requirements.
• Document architecture and APIs; communicate decisions to stakeholders.
• Participate in agile processes, including sprint planning and stand-ups.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies to drive innovation.
