Job summary

OPENLANE seeks a Principal Software Engineer to build scalable cloud-native APIs with .NET Core / Java / Kotlin. You will guide architecture, testing, and cross-functional collaboration on high-value core systems from Carmel, IN. Emphasis on telemetry, performance, and front-end React work.

You will leverage AI tooling to boost development speed and quality, while ensuring production-grade reliability and maintainability across multiple technology stacks.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building scalable, cloud-native APIs with .NET Core / Java / Kotlin.
• University degree or advanced diploma in software engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with front-end JavaScript frameworks such as React.
• Experience with telemetry and performance tuning using modern APM tooling.
• Strong understanding of development and testing methodologies.
• Active use of AI development tools (code copilots, AI debuggers, test generators).
• Curious about applying AI to real customer and business problems.
• Able to critically evaluate AI outputs rather than blindly accepting them.

We’re Looking For

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer with experience in building scalable, cloud-native APIs with .NET, preferably Core / Java / Kotlin. You will be part of an Enterprise Technology Services team responsible for constructing and maintaining high-value core system components. You will be involved in the continuous improvement of core offerings, leading technical discussions on software architecture and testing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. In this role, you will have the opportunity to use your experience in application development, front-end JavaScript frameworks, telemetry, and performance tuning. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in relevant areas.

Compensation Range

Annual Salary: $150,000.00 - $195,000.00 USD (Depending on experience, skill set, qualifications, and other relevant factors.)
