Job summary

CompanyCam in the United States is seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails) to provide technical leadership across the engineering organization. You will influence architecture, mentor engineers, and raise the bar for how we build software, with a focus on scalable systems and developer experience.

The role spans across teams, partnering with product managers and designers, works on backend systems in Rails, PostgreSQL, REST, and AWS, and aims to reduce risk while delivering meaningful

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building and leading software systems (15+ years, impact over years).
• Advanced proficiency in Ruby on Rails and backend system design.
• Proficiency in React/React Native.
• Strong understanding of full-stack architecture and scalable backend systems.
• Experience designing and operating PostgreSQL and REST APIs in production.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud-hosted infrastructure.
• Demonstrated mentoring of engineers and influencing technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across teams and projects.
• Design, evolve, and support backend systems and architecture (Rails, PostgreSQL, REST).
• Influence long-term technical strategy, balancing delivery with platform health and scalability.
• Identify, forecast, and mitigate technical and operational risk.
• Create clarity around technical decisions, trade-offs, and direction in ambiguity.
• Set and uphold high standards for code quality, security, observability, and documentation.
• Consult and advise cross-functionally on complex technical challenges and initiatives.
• Sponsor and explore new tools and technologies to improve developer experience and product outcomes.
• Foster inclusive, psychologically safe environments where engineers can grow.
• Act as a force multiplier enabling teams and individuals.
