Job summary

Beckett is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to guide a broad modernization of its microservices and legacy systems. You will own end-to-end architecture across NestJS/TypeScript, Java, and legacy PHP services, shaping data flows, contracts, and scalability while leading AI-assisted engineering practices.

You’ll drive technical direction, mentor engineers, and coordinate cross-team efforts to deliver robust, scalable platforms for grading, pricing, and marketplace services in the sports

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience leading multi-engineer, multi-quarter projects.
• Expert-level backend engineering in TypeScript/Node.js and/or Java, across polyglot stack (TypeScript, Java, PHP, Python, C#).
• Strong, hands-on background in AI tooling and usage integrated into team workflows.
• Strong distributed-systems fundamentals: service boundaries, API design, messaging, idempotency, failure handling.
• Track record of raising engineering standards: testing, observability, documentation, incident response.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for the team and domain end-to-end architecture.
• Own architecture across services, data stores, and frontends; define data flow and failure modes.
• Design scalable products and services enabling autonomous, iterative development and future growth.
• Lead modernization: strangler pattern from PHP monolith, phased Java→TypeScript migration.
• Understand adjacent systems to identify cross-system risks early.
• Set security, testing, observability, and operational excellence standards; use data to drive improvements.
• Lead AI-assisted engineering adoption: define standards for AI tools, reviews, and verification.
• Plan and deliver projects across 1–2 quarters with clear value-cost prioritization.
• Mentor engineers and raise the organization’s AI fluency.
