Staff Software Engineer – Platform

Remote

About Atlas Engineering

Atlas Engineering builds software that supports real customers and real operational needs. We work closely across engineering, product, design, and operations, with a strong focus on clear thinking, pragmatic solutions, and steady improvement over time.

We value solid engineering fundamentals, thoughtful tradeoffs, and systems that are built to last. As we grow, we’re investing in our platform to ensure our teams can move quickly without introducing unnecessary complexity or risk.

The Role

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer (Platform) to help strengthen and evolve the foundations our product teams rely on. This role focuses on platform capabilities such as reliability, scalability, performance, security, and developer experience.

You’ll work on cross‑cutting technical challenges, help guide architectural direction, and support teams as Atlas continues to scale. This is a hands‑on individual contributor role with broad technical ownership and influence, but no people management.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and evolve shared platform systems and infrastructure
  • Take ownership of complex or cross‑team technical initiatives
  • Identify systemic issues and help address them at the root
  • Contribute to platform standards, patterns, and best practices
  • Work with engineering and product leaders to prioritise platform investments
  • Support teams during complex production issues when needed
  • Mentor and support other engineers through reviews, pairing, and collaboration
  • Stay hands‑on in critical code paths, infrastructure, and operational workflows
What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced engineer who enjoys working on foundational systems and is comfortable operating across teams and problem spaces.

  • Strong experience building and operating production systems
  • Solid backend experience with Node.js and/or .NET (C#)
  • Experience working in a cloud environment (Azure preferred, but not required)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code and modern deployment practices
  • Understanding of reliability, scalability, and operational tradeoffs
  • Experience designing APIs, data models, and service boundaries
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • Ability to lead technical work through influence and sound judgment
Technical Environment (High Level)

You’ll work across our platform stack, with opportunities to focus on areas where you can add the most value.

  • Backend: Node.js and/or .NET services
  • Data: Relational databases (e.g. Postgres, Azure SQL, or similar)
  • Cloud: Microsoft Azure and standard cloud tooling
  • Platform: CI/CD, internal tooling, observability, and operational workflows

Experience with distributed systems, developer tooling, cost optimisation, or automation is a plus—not a requirement.

Nice to Have
  • Experience contributing to cross‑team or platform‑wide initiatives
  • Background in B2B SaaS or complex product environments
  • Exposure to security-, identity-, or compliance‑focused systems
  • Interest in improving reliability, developer experience, or operational efficiency
Final Note

This role is about making the system better for everyone who builds on it. We care less about ticking every box and more about strong judgment, curiosity, and a pragmatic approach to complex technical problems.

If this role sounds broadly aligned with your experience, we’d love to hear from you.

What We Offer
  • The opportunity to work with a purpose — simplifying global expansion across borders and cultures
  • A diverse and inclusive environment
  • Country‑specific benefits
  • Flexible PTO
  • Your birthday off and a day for you to volunteer and give back to the organization of your choice
  • Generous Parental Leave Program
  • Growth and development opportunities with access to a top learning content provider
  • The opportunity to challenge yourself in a high‑performing organization and leave each day knowing you have made an impact.
