Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join the Payments team within the Platform organization.

You will own the architecture and technical direction of payments systems to keep deployments reliable, scalable, and compliant as Coinbase expands to new regions and methods. You will lead multi-year strategy, collaborate with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Operations, mentor engineers, and drive systemic improvements across teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with payments or financial infrastructure exposure.
• Experience building fault-tolerant, scalable distributed systems at scale.
• Proven ability to drive architecture across teams without direct authority.
• Experience with AI-assisted workflow improvements is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own multi-year strategy and roadmap for Payments platform.
• Build and evolve distributed systems for high-volume traffic with observable metrics.
• Establish coding standards and shared frameworks across the team.
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Operations to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers and lead incident postmortems for reliability improvements.
• Drive improvements across multiple teams through architectural reviews.
