Job summary

Tempus is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help lead the design and development of our Java/Spring and React platform behind precision genomics and clinical reporting products.

This hands-on technical leadership role will set direction across services, mentor engineers, and partner with scientific experts to build reliable, scalable, and compliant systems in a regulated clinical environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years in software engineering with full-stack focus.
• Proven leadership and mentoring of engineers.
• Strong cloud experience and integrating third-party software.
• Design RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures.
• Experience with OpenSearch/Elasticsearch and tuning.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and enhance Java/Spring and React applications for genomic workflows.
• Design data models, APIs, and search strategies for large-scale variant data.
• Lead cross-team architecture reviews and design docs.
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve reliability and observability.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices in CI/CD and testing.
