Job summary

Ambry Genetics is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and development of our Java/Spring and React platform behind precision genomics and clinical reporting products.

This hands-on role sets technical direction across services, mentors engineers, and partners with scientists to build reliable, scalable systems in a regulated clinical environment.

Remote in the U.S. is supported; a strong background in cloud, RESTful APIs, data modeling, and OpenSearch/Elasticsearch is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on full-stack development.
• Proven leadership experience; ability to mentor engineers.
• Strong expertise in cloud-based solutions and integrating third-party software.
• Experience building service-oriented architectures and designing RESTful APIs.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience with search/query technologies such as OpenSearch/Elasticsearch.
• Experience with Java/Spring and React.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, MongoDB, DynamoDB)

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and enhance Java/Spring and React applications for genomic workflows.
• Design and own data models, APIs, and search/query strategies for large-scale genomic data.
• Collaborate with scientific/clinical experts to translate domain requirements into technical designs.
• Lead design and development of scalable, secure solutions and align technical direction across teams.
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability and performance.
• Utilize AI-assisted tools to accelerate delivery and establish best practices.
• Advocate for software engineering best practices, testing, and CI/CD.
• Other duties as assigned.
